WhatsApp to launch new feature allowing users to edit sent messages

WhatsApp, the messaging app with more than 1 billion users around the world, will be launching a new feature that allows users to edit messages they have already sent on its iOS and Android apps. This can be useful if you have sent an embarrassing message to the wrong person or have made any mistakes while typing. However, this option will only be available for 10 minutes after sending your message, so it’s important to review your text before you hit send or else there’s no way to correct it after seven minutes.

On the other hand, editing makes it easy to  change the message. Especially if the message is long and you only need to change one detail. Applications like Telegram, which is also a messaging app, were faster than WhatsApp by including this feature in conversations.

However, WhatsApp has been reluctant so far and has already announced that options for editing messages will be implemented in  future updates.

WhatsApp have been working on launching this feature for the last several years however it has now decided to make it official soon. Message delete feature, the recent message reactions and now the message edit features are the most sticking feature of Whatsapp so far.

How will this feature work?

How does message editing work? WhatsApp will do this by tapping on the message. There, in the menu that appears, an edit option will appear. By clicking "edit" the user will be able to modify the text and resubmit. Currently in WhatsApp, you can only delete a message if it hasn't been an hour since it was sent. Now, while this is still speculation, it is expected that the same process will be followed for post editing.
